Beginnings...
WIN-UK (We Ignite Nations-UK) is a UK charity. The charity was established in 2006 to provide clean water to villages in Uttar Pradesh, North India.
Within three years of the inception of our project, we widened the scope of our work, changed our name to Samaritans Projects and became a registered charity (Charity number: 1148251).
Our work was primarily the installation of hand pumps to provide safe, clean water, sewing training centres where women could learn skills to earn an income to better support their families and micro enterprise development loans and training to enable poorer people, without collateral, who could not otherwise obtain a loan, to set up micro businesses to support their families.
Moving forward...
Working in India, we were aware of other organisations involved in similar work and in 2020 the Trustees felt that we could better serve the communities we work with, expand the geographical area we covered and broaden the range of projects by becoming an affiliate of WIN (We Ignite Nations), an international organisation where we knew the people involved and shared the same visions and values.
Our aims are to provide support for the persecuted / disadvantaged in deprived areas of the world in particular, but not exclusively by the provision of : water through installation of wells; shelter, security & food through children's homes; health through medical centres and outreach work; and opportunities for employment through educational support, vocational training and micro enterprise development.
