Stitching Our Way To Victory

October 10, 2024 by Bethany Warren

Meet Poonam, a 30 year old village woman who is incredibly skilled at sewing. Deep inside she always felt that her gift of being able to sew well was given to her for more than just helping her family survive. She desperately wanted to use her abilities to help others in need but with limited resources, her dream seemed impossible.

One day, a mutual friend came to learn about the WIN Sewing Center and ran to tell Poonam all about it. The opportunity to share her skills with others ignited a fire inside of her heart.

A New Opportunity

She could hardly contain her excitement when she came to our WIN Sewing Center. Her enthusiasm was contagious and the staff immediately found an opening for her to join the center and start training other women.

Her first day of teaching filled her heart with so much joy! Seeing others grow in their creativity and freedom gave her great satisfaction.

Fueled by a tremendous sense of purpose with each new day, she has come to realize just how transformative the sewing center is for each woman who walks through the door. With each stitch and seam, the women gain a sense of accomplishment and pride.

Her vision and personal motto has now become;

“It’s not just about women creating beautiful garments but about rebuilding self-esteem and realizing their own potential. For some, it’s a pathway to financial independence, a new skill that opens doors to opportunities they might not have considered before.”

So far, she has trained 500 plus women and young girls over the last six years.

Every day she incorporates her faith into her teaching, believing that each woman is uniquely created by God with talents and gifts. She encourages them to see their sewing projects as more than just fabric and thread but as expressions of worship to God through their creativity.

Purpose Filled Days

She often starts her classes with a prayer, asking for guidance, patience, and a spirit of joy in their work. She is grateful to WIN for giving her the opportunity to share her passion at the Sewing Center and be a part of transforming and empowering lives and communities through this amazing sustainable project.

Projects like the Sewing Center are only made possible because of your incredibly generous giving. Thanks to people like you, many women are now able to feed their families, clothe their children and find their true purpose in Christ.
