Mama!

February 7, 2026 by Bethany Warren

“Mama!”

The cry cut through my dreams and pulled me back into the dark, dirt-floored hallway of our home.

“Mama…”

Just a few more minutes, I begged silently. In my dreams, life was easier. My body did not ache. My children were not thirsty.

“MAMA!”

I pushed myself upright, wincing as pain shot through my back—pain that had become a constant companion after years of hauling water from far away. I moved slowly across the room, careful not to wake my husband. The brick kiln had taken its toll on him, and every moment of rest mattered.

When I reached my baby’s room, I gathered him into my arms, wiping the tears from his cheeks. He wasn’t sick. He wasn’t hurt.

He was thirsty.

I carried him to the kitchen and reached for the cup of water I had saved from the night before—the last of it.

Empty.

My heart sank, and as if he felt it, my baby began to cry again.

“Don’t worry, my love,” I whispered, holding him close. “Mama will get you water.”

I tied him securely around my waist, lifted the empty jug, and fastened it to my headband. Together, before the sun had fully risen, we began the long walk to the well.

Every step was heavy—not just with exhaustion, but with fear. Fear that the line would already be too long. Fear that we would once again return home with an empty jug.

This was how many mornings began.

This is the reality Sudha and so many women in her village lived with every single day. The endless walking. The physical toll. The quiet suffering. Her health was deteriorating—not from illness, but from the burden of surviving without access to clean water.

When WIN’s leaders learned of the extreme hardship this village was enduring, they came. And because of you—because of your generosity and compassion—we were able to partner with the community to change everything.

On January 7, 2026, a well was completed.

Today, Sudha no longer wakes before dawn in fear. She no longer carries impossible weight across impossible distances. She can provide clean water for her family with dignity, safety, and hope.

A resource many of us take for granted is now transforming an entire village—from survival to stability, from exhaustion to empowerment.

This transformation is possible because of partners like you.

And the work isn’t finished yet.

In 2026, we have five more water wells ready to be built—each one waiting for the funding needed to bring clean, life-saving water to villages facing the same daily struggle Sudha once endured.

If you feel moved to be part of transforming lives like this, we invite you to consider giving toward our upcoming water projects. Your generosity can turn early-morning fear into daily provision, and empty water jugs into wells that sustain entire communities.

Because of you, families can rise out of poverty.
Because of you, dignity can be restored.
Because of you, clean water can flow.

Together, we are eliminating poverty—one sustainable project at a time.

Thank you for standing with us.
