In 1992, the Lord showed Leanna the same dream three nights in a row. I
was floating above the earth, and looking down, I saw South Asia and the
grand Himalayan Mountains crowning the northern boundary of Nepal and Tibet. Dark storm clouds churned above, casting a shadow across the land, and the region below the mountains was covered in chains, binding the people in slavery to lostness, poverty, human trafficking, and oppression.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MOUNTAINOUS REGIONS?
Because the Lord gave us such a strong team of native leaders in India, the day came when I was reclining in my room there and thinking, “I’m getting too comfortable. The Lord is going to launch us in a new nation.”
Very shortly after that, the Lord led us to our key leaders for not just one but two new nations! At the age of 27, Amar (pictured) had already played on the national soccer team, rescued someone who had fallen into a frigid Himalayan river, participated in Nepal’s civil war fighting for his country’s freedom, and mobilized a network of blood donors, solving the blood shortage in local hospitals. I realized that now is God’s timing for the second half of the dreams - the Himalayan regions!
The very next year, Amar carried out the most dramatic trafficking bust yet, the rescue of 33 small children who were destined to be used as sex slaves or for organ harvesting! Safely back home with their parents, WIN sponsored their education for many years after that.
Here is a word of wisdom for those of you who have the gift and calling to pioneer, equip leaders, and then move on and do it all over again: look out when you start feeling comfortable! God’s boot is about to connect with your behind and catapult you into your new field. Like the Apostle Paul, our kind must ignite the light of God’s kingdom where “the people walk in darkness.” (Mt. 4:16). We must establish outposts of God’s goodness and salvation in those places and environments “where Christ is not yet named.” (Rom. 15:20)
