The monsoon season had arrived, but the skies remained cloudless, and the sun beat mercilessly on the little saplings.
12-year-old Chica hoped the orchard would end her family's malnutrition and even enable her parents to afford to send her to a good school. But without access to irrigation, the baby apple trees slowly withered away, and the family passed yet another year of suffering and lack. Instead of going to school, Chica often had to toil with her mother to carry heavy water cans from the spring.
That won't happen again! This year, 2024, WIN is funding and managing the construction of a water system for the village. Throughout the winter and spring, the people will be providing the labor to install big holding tanks to collect and underground pipes to transport pure mountain spring water down to the village.
