Dr. Alok Srivastava

visionary leader, missionary heart

On August 6th, 2021, this world lost a great man of God, a beloved father, team member, and friend. Heaven has received and celebrates the homecoming of a true champion and saint. 

Dr. Alok Srivastava was the Director of Lucknow Region, North India for the international organization WIN and affiliates, and founder of the Indian agency The Alliance. He served in this role from 2004 through 2021. 

Alok initiated and led one of the greatest united movements in South Asia. He and the team members who served under his leadership trained, mentored, and mobilized thousands to bring hope and healing to Alok's beloved homeland, the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. 

He was also instrumental in launching the work of WIN in two other nations. 

Alok battled Mesothelioma cancer (a type of cancer caused by asbestos exposure) since early 2020. He is survived by his wife Ricky, daughter Shekinah, and son Shadrach. This untimely passing of a precious friend and team member leaves a hole in the hearts of us all. 

However, the projects that Alok initiated, and the legacy he created will continue. The WIN team in India and abroad covenant to carry forward the initiatives and projects. We know a new season is ahead, and that Alok is with the great cloud of witnesses in heaven, cheering us on (Heb. 12:1)

At the end of the memorial service, WIN's India Director Shivpal Sharma (David) and other senior pastors and leaders commissioned new leaders to carry on the work in Lucknow Region. 

Gaurav Srivastava, Alok's nephew and Leanna's personal disciple who has served since 2009 as our Lucknow Region Manager, is assuming Alok's role as Lucknow Regional Director. He will be assisted by Alok's wife Ricky and brother Pawan, to carry on the leadership of the ministries and projects which were being overseen and led by Alok. These include:

A PASSING OF THE BATON

Hebrews 12:1,2 announces to us that all of the heroes in Chapter 11 are stationed in the grandstands of Heaven and are witnessing our time on the earth.

The language of these two verses is taken from the ancient Olympic games.  The last race of those games was the relay.  Each athlete would run a lap and then hand the baton to the next runner.  The imagery for the believer is obvious.  We each run our race of Faith and then hand the baton to the next generation.  

At the next Olympics, the runners from previous years were invited to sit in the grandstands to observe the new athletes and cheer them on.  The Lord wants us to know that those who have run by faith before us can now watch us and cheer for our success.  So as we run, we look in the stands and gain encouragement from Moses and David and other heroes of the Bible.  

But today there is a new hero in the stands.  Alok is there in the crowd, and he is watching us and cheering for us. He has passed the baton of faith to us and now we must run as did he, with all our might.  And we know we will win this race because verse 2 tells us that Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Jesus ran the first lap at creation and came to earth as the only God/Man and ran successfully. And He will come again and run the anchor lap for us, so we know we will win because of Jesus.  

However, now is our time to run.  We have received the baton of faith from Alok and we dare not miss this opportunity to try our best.  Let us take up his passion and continue his ministries and run with all our might until we join him in the crowd or until he returns with Jesus.

CARRYING ON ALOK'S LEGACY

One of Alok’s favorite passages of Scripture was Luke 5 – Jesus told Simon Peter, “Launch out into the deep.”  Alok was a man who constantly launched out into the deep. He was willing to try whatever God put in his heart. He saw the possibility and not the impossibilities. He is an example to all of us. Will you launch out into the deep and see the possibilities not the impossibilities?

Alok was a strategist who stepped outside the boundaries to love, to mobilize action, and to build bridges. He courageously brought together Christians and non-Christian high-level leaders to promote peace and collaboration. Others said no, those are the people who persecute us! But Alok didn’t walk in fear but faith.  Will you today choose to follow Alok’s example? Choose to live not in fear but in faith! If Alok was here right now, he would say "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Alok never worked alone. He was a builder of lives and of people. Luke 5 goes on to say, “And when they had (launched out into the deep), they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats…” 

Alok was a networker. He knew that the way to influence is to build a team.  He didn’t seek the stage. But he ignited collaboration and teamwork. If Alok was here in person, he would say to us right now, “Work together in unity. Don't seek your own fame or benefit. Serve each other. And in serving, you will rescue many more people for Christ’s kingdom. Bring hope and healing to our beloved land, Uttar Pradesh.” 

Alok would have wanted what he started to continue and to grow. Therefore as the director of Alok’s international organization, WIN, I commit that the projects and initiatives that Alok initiated and that we have built together all these years, WILL CONTINUE and WILL GROW. 

Let us carry on the work that Alok ignited. He is more alive now than ever! He is watching us from on high. He is cheering us all on. Together, let’s carry on his legacy. Let us bring hope and healing to north India and beyond.
